The Writers of the Future Contest - Honorable Mention - December 2010

In December 2010, Craig McGuire received an “Honorable Mention” for his short story “When the Sky Ran Red.” (Click here to read the short story.)
 
"Writers of the Future" is a science fiction and fantasy story contest that was originated by L. Ron Hubbard in the early 1980s. The contest is the highest-paying contest for amateur science-fiction and fantasy writers. Notable past winners of WOTF include Stephen Baxter, Karen Joy Fowler, James Alan Gardner, Nina Kiriki Hoffman, Jay Lake, Michael H. Payne, Patrick Rothfuss, Robert Reed, Dean Wesley Smith, Sean Williams, Dave Wolverton, Nancy Farmer, and David Zindell. The winning stories are published in the yearly anthology L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of Future.

Writer's Digest 79th Annual Writing Contest - Honorable Mention, Rhyming Poetry - December 2010 

In December 2010, Craig McGuire received an "Honorable Mention" in Writer's Digest's 79th Annual Writing Contest for his poem, "I Had What Few Had." (Click Here to Read That Poem.) For 79 years, the Annual Writer’s Digest Competition has rewarded writers for their finest work across 10 categories. “I Had What Few Had” was recognized in the Rhyming Poetry category.

Citation for “Continued Commitment to the Children and Families of mercyFirst.” - 2006


As Founder/Coordinator of "The Annual Brooklyn Pizza Eating Contest – Brooklyn, New York," Craig McGuire received recognition for conceiving and organizing this annual charity event that involves event organization, sponsorship recruitment, budgeting, resource management, and delivering presentations before key audiences throughout Brooklyn. The objective of this event is to raise donations to support mercyFirst, a child welfare agency that is the union of Angel Guardian and St. Mary’s Children and Family Services, serving more than 3,000 abused, neglected and troubled children at 27 locations throughout the New York Metropolitan area.
